AUSTIN CALLS ON COUNCILS TO HONOUR SERVICE PERSONNEL RETURNING FROM ABROAD

Dudley North MP IAN AUSTIN is calling on local councils to organise civic receptions for members of the armed forces returning from abroad.

Austin is writing to the leader and chief executive of Dudley Council asking them to organise the events to pay tribute to the bravery and courage of service personnel from the borough.

His call follows on from a series of events he has organised to honour the heroism of veterans from Dudley in earlier conflicts such as the World War Two and the Korean War.

Ian Austin said: “Whatever people think about the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, I think everyone will agree that we should honour the bravery of local members of the armed forces when they return from dangerous tours of duty abroad.

“I think anyone who serves their country in this way is a real hero and the rest of us should applaud the service they give and the courage they display.

“Events like this would be a small token of the huge appreciation and gratitude we should all feel for people who serve their country.”
