Dudley North MP Ian Austin joined local parents at Milking Bank School to campaign for greater road safety outside of the school following an accident in which a pupil was hit by a car.
Austin was contacted by the parent of the child involved in the accident and immediately contacted the Council urging them to put traffic calming measures outside of the school gates.
Austin launched a petition which has been circulated and signed by concerned parents and residents. Anyone who wishes to back this campaign can get a copy of the petition by calling Ian Austin on 01384 342504.
Austin is also leading the campaign to get greater road safety measures outside Redhall Primary in Gornal.
Ian Austin MP said:
“As soon as I was contacted by local parents about the accident and their concerns about the speed of traffic around the school I immediately called on the Council to install traffic calming measures such as speed bumps and a zebra crossing.”
“This accident was serious and luckily the pupil is recovering well and there will be no long term damage. I am not going to stand aside and hope that the next child is as lucky – that is why I want local residents to back my calls by signing my petition.”
“Knowing that the roads around your child’s school are as safe as can be is so important for parents and will make getting your children to school easier.”
