Austin intervention gets Wrens Nest and Priory share of £20million extra funding

Local MP’s hard work secures extra funding for local area

Dudley North MP Ian Austin has intervened to help the Wrens Nest and Priory estates get a share of £20million government funding through the Connecting Communities program.

The Connecting Communities initiative is designed to support those traditional working class areas of the country that have been worst hit by the economic downturn and ensure that residents are getting a bigger say on local issues and are plugged into the benefits of government investment.

As soon as Austin heard about the extra investment that was available he immediately contacted Dudley Council chiefs urging them to submit a bid. Austin also called on the Council to make sure that the submission hit hard at the real challenges facing local people.

Ian Austin MP said:

“This extra investment shows that we have a government that is on the side of those who work hard and play by the rules.  I know that things have been tough for local families over the last year and that is why I have worked hard to make sure that Dudley gets any extra government funding that is available.”

“We have seen locally the difference it makes to have a government that is on the side of hard working people during the last year, unlike the recessions of the 80’s and 90’s people in Dudley have not been left to cope on their own with no help at all.”

“This extra funding must be used to provide practical help for local residents and I will be keeping a close eye on what the council do with this bonus cash.  During tough times we all know that every penny counts and that is why the council have to make the most of this opportunity.”

“It is my job to stand up and fight for hard working local people and that is why I could not let the Council get away with not applying for this extra investment.”
