Dudley North MP, Ian Austin, is to visit Milking Bank Primary School this Friday (12th October
2007) at 11.30am, to discuss his role as the children’s MP.
The visit follows a trip that was organised for the children of year six to attend the House of Commons. Ian Austin will be speaking to the
children about his role as their MP, as part of their current course on Europe.
The children are currently studying Europe, as part of this course the youngsters explore the role the UK plays within the European Union, as well as the
role MPs and MEPs play in the system. The children thoroughly enjoyed the trip and
impressed quizitive guides with their knowledge of history and roles that officials play in London. I
an Austin MP said:
“I am delighted that the children enjoyed their trip to the House of Commons and that they are studying these issues at such a young age.
Trips like this really are fantastic as it gets children interested in the way their country is run and how their area can be changed for the better at an early age.”
“I think it is essential that children learn at a young age that it is important to be both respectful and thoughtful towards each other as well as
understanding that the best way to improve things is to talk openly and rationally.”
“I am incredibly proud that the children were able to answer the guide’s questions and that their understanding of the subject impressed people, as I think it
illustrates what I have been saying for some time, that Dudley has some of the brightest children and best teachers in the country.”
