The Wren's Nest Nature Reserve is not only a place of great beauty but is also a historically fascinating place.
The Wren's Nest is a classic geological site of exceptional importance, being one of the most notable geological locations in the British Isles, which people from across the world visit to
study.
Historically the Wren's Nest has also played an important role in both the development of the Black Country but also in the British industrial revolution. Most famously, Abraham Darby, The Father
of the Industrial Revolution, was born on the Wren's Nest in 1678.
The Wren's Nest also saw Dud Dudley (son of Lord Dudley) develop a process to smelt iron with coke instead of charcoal, however, local charcoal burners fearing for thier livelihoods destroyed his
furnaces. Abraham later redeveloped Dudley's work.
This truely is a place that both adults and children will enjoy.
