£1.5m investment announced to turn derelict site into new local homes

Housing Minister John Healey will visit Dudley tomorrow to announce a £1.5 million investment to transform the derelict site of the former Washington Arms pub.

Austin and Healey will be at the Wrens Nest Road site 2.45pm Thursday 3 December 2009.

The £1.5million cash injection will see 30 new much needed mix tenure homes built on the site.  The properties will include a mix of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments and 3 bedroom houses.

Austin and Healey will be joined by Councillor Alan Finch who has worked hard to get the site which has been derelict for over two years developed and finally put to use.

The scheme will provide a boost to local housing plans and the community around the site who have had to live with an unsightly derelict site for far too long.

Ian Austin MP said:

"I've worked really hard to make sure this investment can be go ahead so that we can provide new homes, jobs and skills for local people.

"Residents will be delighted to hear this site will be transformed into much-needed new housing but we're only able to invest this extra cash and provide these new homes n Dudley because the government chose to increase public spending to keep the economy moving and save jobs in the construction trade."

Councillor Alan Finch said:

“This is a great day for the Wrens Nest.  I am very pleased that the investment needed to develop this site has been found.  Local residents have waited a long time to learn the fate of this site.”
